Other terms are "thematic role" (or "theta role") and "participant role".
participant role (a.k.a. Frame Element, microrole) (SEM) = the role that a particular participant performs in an event – specifically, what the participant does, or has done to them, in the course of the event. Example: in the eating event, there is an ‘eater’ par- ticipant role and a ‘food’ participant role, and different things happen with the ‘eater’ and the ‘food’ in the eating event.
