Concept: completive (aspectuality)

Definition

A situation has completive aspectual reference if it is occurs or is carried out in a thorough manner or to completion.

Quotation
Bybee et al. (1994: 54): "Our working definition of completive is 'to do something thoroughly and to completion', as is expressed, for example, in 'to shoot someone dead' or 'to eat up'. Grams labeled as denoting a "completed action" by the reference grammar were not necessarily coded as completive. Unless the author's characterizations and translations included expressions such as 'thoroughly, completely, to completion' or the like, we regarded grams of this sort as perfective."
