Concept: coexpression

Definition

[[A form coexpresses two or more meanings if it can express them in different contexts or on different occasions.]]

Comments

Coexpression is similar to "polysemy", but it does not entail that the meanings are different as language-particular meanings; it merely says that the form can express two identifiable comparison meanings. The term "coexpression" is a generalization of François's (2008) term "colexification", applying to all kinds of forms, not only lexical roots and lexemes. It was introduced by Hartmann et al. (2014).
