A hyparctic clause is a °clause with a single argument that expresses existence regardless of location.
The term was introduced in Haspelmath (2025: 12) for expressions of "pure existence" such as "God exists". It is based on the Greek word hyparxis 'existence'.
Such clauses have often been regarded as a subtype of existential clauses, but it is better to define existential clauses as a subtype of locational clause.
