An existive is a °copula that can be used in °existential clauses but not in °equational, °predlocative or °ascriptive clauses.
Existives like Spanish "hay" are sometimes called "existential predicators" (Creissels et al. 2026: §4.4.3), even though existential clauses are not really predicational. The term "existive" was first used in Haspelmath (2025: 7). The term must be defined negatively because in some languages, existives can be used in predpossessive clauses.
